New York police arrested an 18-year-old Bitcoin trader on Tuesday after he allegedly beat his roommate to death with a hammer inside their luxury Queens apartment.

Quentin Capobianco, a Bitcoin entrepreneur and paralegal, who worked in both capacities with his roommate, attorney Jesse Smith, allegedly bludgeoned the 29-year-old following a drug-related dispute, according to a report by the New York Daily News.

Capobianco, however, maintains he did it out of self-defense, according to a DNAinfo report.

The teenager says the two had a violent argument after Capobianco trashed their apartment that resulted in Smith tying him up to a chair and holding a gun to his face.

That’s when Capobianco says he managed to pry himself free and took a hammer to Smith’s head.

Responding officers discovered severely injured Smith at the pair’s high-rise apartment at around 3.30pm.

The Long Island-bred attorney eventually succumbed to head trauma at an area hospital.

Capobianco has since been charged with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, the shotgun he claims Smith pointed at him, with intent to use.
