As the election to fill two individual member seats at the Bitcoin Foundation has ended without a clear winner, the runoff election will be held from February 24th to 27th. None of the 13 candidates received at least 50% of the vote from foundation members and the Bitcoin Foundation says that per the bylaws, a candidate needs to receive at least 50% approval to win.
The Bitcoin Foundation says, “Janssens finished first in the poling, capturing 46.7% of the 323 votes. Given that none of the candidates received at least 50% of the vote, we will be holding a runoff election for the two individual board seats. The four candidates that received the most number of votes will be available for selection in this runoff election.”
The organization informs that participants in the run-off election will include entrepreneur Olivier Janssens, former foundation global policy counsel Jim Harper, Atlantic Financial’s Bruce Fenton and Michael Perklin of the CryptoCurrency Certification Consortium (C4), each of whom received at least 30% of the vote.
Thus, so far, the top four candidates are: Olivier Janssens; Jim Harper; Bruce Fenton; and Michael Perklin. The Bitcoin Foundation says that for this runoff election, it will be re-opening registration for any annual or lifetime members who wish to register to vote wherein Bitcoin Foundation annual and lifetime members will receive an email with the link to register to vote.
Jinyoung Lee Englund of the Bitcoin Foundation writes, “If you are an annual or lifetime member and have not been receiving foundation emails, please email membership@bitcoinfoundation.org. If you have unsubscribed from our mailing list, then you may not receive your link to register. Please contact us if that is the case.”
Registration Open till 23rd February
She further writers, “While registering, if you experience technical difficulties, please contact support@bitcoinfoundation.org. Those that are already registered do not need to re-confirm. Registration will be open today and be available through Monday, February 23, 2015 at 11:59pm EST.
The Bitcoin Foundation informs that the runoff election will take place from Tuesday, February 24, 2015 to Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:59pm EST and the winners will be announced on Saturday, February 28, 2015 via the foundation blog. Nonetheless, if two candidates do not receive at least 50% of the vote, then the organization will have another runoff election.
