Another 85 years down the line, digital currency and Bitcoin may well be among the list of most important developments of the century. Bitcoin has already become a word of mouth. Almost everyone has heard of Bitcoin, some use it, some know about it and a majority have no clue as to what it is.
The word Bitcoin became familiar after the Bitcoin price boom in 2013when the value of a bitcoin crossed the $1000 mark. Thanks to gravity, anything that goes up has to come down, and hence came down the bitcoin price (Yeah, I know it wasn’t gravity that brought it down. But still…).
People are curious to know about Bitcoin for various reasons of their own. Some people would love to keep themselves updated about things happening around them, others see it as an opportunity and would like to explore the field of cryptocurrency so that they can be in the right place at the right time to make money and so on. So, where should they go, to learn about Bitcoin? The answer is technology again. The core technology that made the whole concept of digital currency a reality, the internet. Internet is full of resources that one can exploit.
The concept of MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) has made it easier to dissipate knowledge to masses right to their desks/computers. University of Nicosia, the largest university in Cyprus has launched a new MSc in Digital Currency program last year. This program is designed for the academia, professionals, entrepreneurs and technical developers. It also paves the way for further doctoral studies in digital currency related fields like computer science, management, finance, innovation and technology regulation. University of Nicosia’s MSc in Digital Currency program is more directed towards hardcore learners, but they do have a watered down introductory course for those who are interested to know the basics.
The Introductory MOOC course on Digital Currency is a free course offered by the University of Nicosia. It extends roughly for a duration of 3 months and it covers a wide range of topics starting from the history of money to the evolution of digital currency, Bitcoin, regulatory and tax treatment. The introductory course gives a complete overview of digital currency, the technology behind it and its potential.
The previous session of this course saw over 615 registrations from over 76 different countries. This year’s session is slated to start from April 24, 2015. If you are interested, you can register here for the course. Upon completion, students will receive an academic certificate from the University of Nicosia, which can be verified through the Bitcoin blockchain.
