Interview Jinyoung Lee Englund, Bitcoin Foundation – Zermatt Summit 2014

The Bitcoin Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jinyoung Lee Englund as the Director of Public Affairs. Based in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Englund will lead the education and communications efforts of the Foundation."Bitcoin professionals are passionately engaged in changing the world for the better. Prior to joining the Bitcoin Foundation, Mrs. Englund served in various capacities at CoinLab, a Bitcoin business incubator. Her experience with Bitcoin ranges from project management for a mining subsidiary, business development for an exchange, and communications and marketing for the parent company.Before her induction to Bitcoin, Mrs. Englund served four years in public policy and politics, directing day-to-day operations for the then Vice-Chair of the House Republican Conference, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) in her DC Congressional office and the Honorable Elaine L. Chao, 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor at the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational think tank that promotes free enterprise, individual freedom, limited government, traditional values and a strong national defense. Most recently, she served on the Romney/Ryan Presidential Transition Team during the 2012 presidential election. Additionally, she served with a nationally recognized U.S. Senate race.Before entering public service, Mrs. Englund served with an international development nonprofit that cares for orphaned children, provides job skills training, builds schools and provides medical services in Mozambique.In addition to Mozambique, Mrs. Englund has lived in Seoul, South Korea and Stuttgart, Germany. She is well traveled, having spent time either serving the poor, studying or visiting in Punjab, India; Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; Johannesburg, South Africa; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; London, England and Shanghai, China. Her experiences abroad have made her keenly aware of how Bitcoin's unique qualities create opportunities for online commerce, financial inclusion of the global south, and a remittance lifeline to diaspora communities.Mrs. Englund is an alumna of the University of Washington with a B.A. in Comparative History of Ideas as well as a recipient of the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Mrs. Englund is married to U.S. Marine Corps Captain Geoffrey Englund, and they reside in Alexandria, VA.
