KnC Miner to Setup Another Data Center in the Arctic

How long does it generally take a company to build all the required infrastructure from scratch and start operations in a new place? Any guesses? Yes, usually 6 months to a year, unless the businesses is into the Bitcoin or cryptocurrency sector. KnC Miner, a—Bitcoin mining company—has plans to build its latest data center in a record time of one month.

According to reports, the company has announced its plans to build a 20MW data center in Sweden. The company’s plan to induct a new facility aligns with the timing of the launch of its latest ASICs. The speed at which KnC Miner is moving can be compared to the speed of transactions on the Bitcoin network, which they enable through their mining operations.

KnC Miner has been expanding rapidly by adding new data centers. The last data center of similar capacity was finished six months ago, and according to CEO Sam Cole, the latest data center will be operational by the end of February or early March.

The arctic region has become the most sought-after destination for tech companies. The cold environment in the region makes it an ideal place to set up data centers as there is no need to provide additional air cooling equipment. The cold temperatures in the region will act as a natural air conditioner, eliminating the costs otherwise associated with the cooling requirements of data centers.

The towns surrounding Lulea–comprising of four municipalities including that of Lulea–are better known as Node Pole because of their proximity to the arctic circle, and the presence of over ten data centers belonging to Facebook, KnC Miner, Hydro66, Fortlax and others. Node Pole offers electricity generated from renewable sources at low cost, making them the most environmentally-friendly data centers in the world. Node Pole by itself is a not-for-profit organization that promotes investments into data centers in the region; the towns of Boden, Lulea, Pitea and Alvsbyn host these data centers within their municipality limits.

While Sam Cole readily divulged energy capacity of the new data center, he has not given any details about the hashing power the data center will be generating upon going online. The company’s approach to setting up miners as the facility is getting built (referred to as continuous construction) makes it easy for the company to get its data centers operational in no time.
