The fourth edition of the Ethereum Devcon, held in Prague, Czech Republic, saw some of the biggest names in the game talking about the industry’s future. Joe Lubin, the current CEO of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum also addressed the conference. He reviewed the state of the Ethereum ecosystem in his speech, establishing some the accomplishments made by its developers.
A Medium post from ConsenSys Jan. 9th, highlights Lubin’s speech as they prepare themselves for the launch of ConsenSys 2.0.
“Reverberations from Lubin’s address are still being felt in early 2019 as Ethereum 2.0 comes into view and teams, businesses, and individuals alike prepare for the next phase of development.”
Lubin’s optimism about the next generation of decentralized applications could be felt through his words. He states that the next killer app will be a killer ecosystem. Furthermore, he points out that the protocol has evolved its developer tools and network over the past two years in order to aid the developers to “the next big thing” in tech.
Ethereum – The New Killer App
As the industry enteres the new year after facing quite a few hurdles, Lubin’s word offers more to the listeners. He argued with the naysayers, who questioned the crypto space for “being all about speculation” and failing to provide any killer apps. Lubin noted that cryptocurrencies themselves were the latest killer app(s) to has come out of the space. He cited the example of the Internet as many tend to do.
He further adds that the new killer app is already in the works and is bound to change the world in ways we have never seen. Lubin states that Ethereum 2.0 has brought the idea of Web3 closer than ever, enabling the creation, issuance, distribution, exchange, and management of “so many different kinds of crypto assets.”
He called Ethereum the killer ecosystem that the industry has been waiting for, it will transform global economic, social, and political systems. While Lubin’s arguments could be chalked off as biases, one thing is for sure that decentralization is the next killer app. The current environment of opposition is similar to what the internet experienced in the early 2000s.
