The recognized mobile phone manufacturer HTC explained that it will be releasing a new smartphone with a Bitcoin node included. During the Magical Crypto Conference in New York, the decentralized chief officer of HTC announced that they will also be launching a new low-cost version of their blockchain phone.

HTC Has Big Plans For The Future

During the conference, Mr. Chen revealed that the EXODUS 1 will have a new low-cost version called EXODUS 1s. This device will be different from the others because it will also include a full node for the Bitcoin (BTC) network. That means that users will have the entire blockchain on their devices.

The firm will also be providing a software development kit (SDK) for developers to be able to work on the Zion Vault, the crypto wallet application created by HTC. Additionally, they might be planning to open-source the code behind the social key recovery mechanism.

According to Chen, the intention is to release the new device as soon as the third quarter of this year. At the same time, it will be more accessible for users. Individuals will be able to pay between $250 and $300 for it.

Just a year ago, the HTC EXODUS 1 was launched at CoinDesk’s Consensus 2018 and it was released later this year. Users could pay for the smartphone with virtual currencies but they decided to open fiat payments as well.

The company wants to offer users the possibility to run a full Bitcoin node, which is very important for the safety of the whole network. Chen explained to CoinDesk that if users do not hold their keys, they do not hold their cryptocurrencies. EXODUS 1 was created in order to let users maintain their own private keys.

Additionally, he said that smartphones are becoming more and more capable of dealing with larger storage requirements and efficiency. On the matter, he commented:

“The Bitcoin blockchain is about 200 gigabytes, and it’s growing about 60 gigs per year. And those numbers are reasonable to hold on a smartphone. Imagine the iPod with 256 gigs… of course, the music fan wants to keep the whole music library but the crypto fan wants to keep the whole Bitcoin blockchain.”

EXODUS 1s will also be able to conduct normal smartphone operations such as playing music, watching videos, surfing the internet or downloading and running applications and decentralized applications (dApps).
