Altcoin News: IOTA and the Linux Foundation Partner Through LF Edge
  • Linux Foundation collaborates with IOTA for assistance in completing Linux’s stack of technologies
  • The IOTA Foundation plans to start by integrating the Edge X Foundry to increase interoperability in the stack

On September 23, 2019, the IOTA announced its partnership with the Linux Foundation to assist in the completion of Linux’s stack of technologies in the development of IoT, cloud integration and Edge.

Earlier this year, the IOTA Foundation had announced that they would expand into North America to increase their presence. Mathew Yarger, the Public Sector Product Owner at IOTA Foundation, states that this partnership with Linux Foundation marks the first step towards that direction.

Perks of Blockchain

For the last two years, IOTA has been working towards developing with the use of distributed ledger technology to solve real problems. Both blockchain and distributed ledger technologies are merited as new tech break barriers, enhance collaborations among different startups as well as do things functionally.

The initial step for the IOTA foundation is to integrate the Edge X Foundry. IOTA plans to showcase its power in securing, scaling and increasing interoperability in the stack, particularly, the Edge and fog parts.

The hyper ledger is another part of the LF Edge stack with decentralized technologies. They have developed great permissioned data capabilities. Through this partnership, IOTA is projected to bridge the permissioned capabilities offered by hyper ledger with its permissionless capabilities.

Arpit Joshipura, General Manager at Linux Foundation, stated:

“We’re excited to be integrating more closely with the IOTA Foundation and are eager to further open innovation and leveraging the unique capabilities that IOTA brings to the LF Edge table.”

The report states that the IOTA Foundation has been working on bridging the hyper ledger for a while. IOTA Foundation hopes that bridging of the hyper ledger will be among the first open-source contributions they make to the LF Edge stack. They believe it can allow interoperability and data sharing for both permissioned and permissionless.

The IOTA Foundation express their excitement in the open collaboration with Linux Foundation, EdgeX Foundry, the Hyperledger ecosystems, and LF Edge. The Linux Foundation is also excited towards working together with IOTA in the open-source collaborations which signify the ability for different startups to grow together.

IOTA to Make the Linux Foundation Complete

The Linux Foundation has for some time been known as a leader in the open-source community, embracing open collaboration, multi-stakeholder solutions as well as having a great platform and service in the technology space.

The LF Edge has been said to be the leading open source stack for cloud interoperability, Edge and IoT. However, despite the hype, something was missing – the distributed ledger technology. With IOTA joining in, the LF Edge framework will be complete.
