BitTorrent and ColdStack partner to integrate decentralized file storage protocol BTFS
Decentralized file storage project ColdStack has partnered with BitTorrent, the company behind the popular torrenting program of the same name, the TRON-based BTT token, the BitTorrent File System (BTFS) and other solutions. Through the partnership, ColdStack will be adding support for BTFS to its Gateway Storage SDK (software development kit). The SDK will be open-source, and available for use without the requirement to go through the ColdStack DApp.
ColdStack is developing a system that provides users easy access to a number of different decentralized storage solutions, including Filecoin, Siacoin, Storj, and now also BTFS. ColdStack uses AI to quickly determine which decentralized storage service is the most suitable for the user according to their needs. The project is focused on cold data storage – cold data refers to information that is only rarely accessed but needs to be stored for long periods of time. According to the ColdStack project, cold data is a particularly suitable use-case for decentralized storage.
The project’s solutions boast full compatibility with the Amazon S3 API, giving developers an easy onboarding experience and save time and money when it comes to integrations.
The BitTorrent File System was first unveiled in 2019, and is a peer-to-peer protocol and network implementation where users can store and access files in a decentralized manner. Among other use-cases, BTFS can be used by TRON developers who need decentralized file storage for the purposes of their decentralized apps. BTFS also integrates the BTT token as a means of payment, and allows users to "mine" BTT tokens as a reward for hosting files. The latest version of BTFS, 1.5.1, was released on March 5.
In addition to the freshly unveiled partnership with BitTorrent, ColdStack has recently managed to attract a host of new investors, including OKEx’s Block Dream Fund, Kenetic Capital, DFG and others. The project is planning to launch its own token called CLS, which will be used within the ColdStack ecosystem for governance, paying platform fees, minting NFTs and signing transactions.
