A Virtual TIMES Square

Interesting developments take place every day in the NFT World. The newest collaboration on the block is that of TIME Magazine with the popular blockchain-based gaming company The Sandbox. Both of them are joining hands to introduce a virtual TIMES Square in the Metaverse.

A Virtual TIMES Square
They did an official announcement where they declared that the initiative was inspired by the virtual energy and spirit of the actual Times Square in New York City.

Times Square is popular worldwide and is an iconic cultural center that is famous for tourist destinations and commercial intersections in New York. The area is also popular for its illuminated billboards and advertisements.

So, TIMES and Sandbox plan to reimagine the iconic Square in the metaverse. The legendary New York City landmark will be a virtual hub of art and commerce in the metaverse.

As a part of their collaboration, TIME has also purchased land in the Sandbox, where the virtual TIMES Square will be created. At the same time, the virtual square will also function as a platform for various virtual experiences. TIMEpiece holders will have exclusive privileges as they will be able to attend exclusive meetings and events conducted by TIME Studios for educational and recreational purposes.

TIME- The Heart of Metaverse
The media company launched TIMEpieces in September 2021. It is an NFT community initiative that features the artwork of almost 40 influential artists. The community currently has four NFT collections that include Inspiration, Genesis, Slices of TIME, Long Neckie Women of the Year, and Beatclub Collection.

However, TIME’S first foray into the metaverse was with Galaxy Digital, when they agreed to produce metaverse-related content.

TIME’s president Keith A. Grossman said that the company’s goal is to build an iconic virtual environment that becomes the heart of the metaverse world.

He further stated, “Our goal is to create a destination that will be the heart of the metaverse. Since launching TIMEPieces in September 2021, we have focused on developing a community in Web3 that benefited from the incredible 100- year legacy and access TIME has established.”

Grossman has further encouraged architects and issued an open call for them to design the virtual TIMES Square location as a voxel creation. His major intent is to capture the original authenticity of the Times Square location in New York. The virtual TIMES Square is all set to be TIME’S first-ever metaverse destination.

An Exciting Bridge
The virtual TIMES Square will act as an inclusive platform for TIMEPieces holders. All of them will be able to enjoy unique experiences like attending meetings and events hosted by TIME Studios.

Grossman further added that the TIMES Square will act as an exciting and natural bridge between the company’s virtual community, real-life events, global relationships, and historical coverage.

Sandbox’s Metaverse Game
Sandbox is one blockchain platform that has helped various brands and organizations to enter the metaverse. It has even opened the gateways of metaverse for K-pop by partnering with Cube Entertainment.

Sandbox COO and Co-Founder Sebastien Borget said that their platform is often viewed as a ‘Virtual Manhattan’ where it is possible to connect, learn and grow. By partnering with TIME, they are making TIMEPieces the beating heart and soul of this virtual space.
