Apple’s Vision Pro Goggles will not Revolutionize the World

Recently Apple released the $3,500 vision pro.

This amongus mask is supposed to revolutionize the tech industry by catapulting us into the era of “spatial computing” (Apple, probably).

About a year ago, I wrote an article about how Mark Zuckerberg had the greatest chance of revolutionizing the virtual reality/metaverse landscape. Instead, after a year, it looks like Timmy Cook was busy cooking while Zuckerberg was still trying to figure out if he was human or not. Instead, I will take this article to explain why Tim Cook burned the food, and how Zuckerberg is the chosen one to revolutionize the era of “spatial computing” (Apple, probably not).

First of all, a key point in the original article was how Zuckerberg would revolutionize how people interact. Throughout our history, innovation has been used to either make more money, or to connect people. Zuckerberg’s Metaverse would be designed to do both, making him money and connecting people in a way that we could never have done before. In the original article, I talk about how the Metaverse could help streamline workplaces, and introduce another dimension to social media. All of the points that I make are related to the software side of things, about how new innovations in software engineering would lead to better human interaction.

On the other hand, Apple’s Vision Pro goggles are exactly that. Goggles. These goggles don’t actually revolutionize anything. Instead, with the use of a very well designed website as well as contrasting neutral colors, Apple’s website gives you the feels, making you think that this $3500 piece of scrap metal is revolutionary.

These goggles are just another way of displaying stuff from a software program. They don’t allow us to interact with people in a new way, instead, pushing us away from people, as we stay at home playing with our cool little gadget. From Apple’s website it looks like there is nothing the new goggles can do on a software level that other Apple devices cannot do. The only difference is they could claim the display is better, or that there is a more efficient use of screen space, but these are only superficial innovations that are not worth the high price tag.

This is the equivalent of Apple releasing the desk pro plus, in which they put a display on a desk and claim that it will “revolutionize the era of horizontal computing” (Apple 2069). On this desk, the apps will be the exact same as on other Apple devices, and the only difference would be the scoliosis caused, as well as the “revolutionary way to arrange different windows” (Apple 2069).

From this we can conclude that the vision pro goggles are just a glorified monitor, with no world changing innovation.

Although this device doesn’t portray itself as a threat to Zuckerberg’s Metaverse, as it doesn’t actually have any metaverse in it, it is important for Zuckerberg to continue tracking Timmy’s actions. It would also be important for Zuckerberg to begin developing his own high tech goggles that would allow more efficient implementation of his Metaverse. In this way, he would be actually innovating, by giving a platform for human interaction, as well as streamlining it through the goggles. Apple currently only has one of those parts, and without the other, it is an expensive piece of hogwash.
