We are excited to announce that community-led Bitcoin.org is the recipient of a sponsorship awarded from the Bitcoin Foundation as of March 2014. Bitcoin.org is an invaluable resource for the greater Bitcoin community; they are a gateway to the network for new users, a portal for alerts regarding network events, a meeting point for developers and media as well as a beacon providing greater visibility to the larger Bitcoin ecosystem.

“I have always personally admired the work of those who dedicate their time freely to provide this excellent resource for the Bitcoin community and anyone who is trying to learn about Bitcoin. It’s an honor for the foundation to be able to support their work,” said Jon Matonis, Executive Director.

“Improving international accessibility is one of the goals of our partnership. As a global network, Bitcoin has the potential to provide fair access to a universal payment system across political and geographic borders — especially in areas that are traditionally under-served or over-looked by the financial services industry. In addition, our partnership strengthens our commitment to international users by providing for more translations of important information relating to the network. Working on bitcoin.org is a privilege and I intend to continue making it a useful resource for the worldwide community as per the existing mission of the website,” said Saïvann Carignan, maintainer of Bitcoin.org.

The Bitcoin Foundation and Bitcoin.org are committed to empowering those doing great things in the Bitcoin community. The Foundation’s mission to protect, standardize and promote the use of the Bitcoin protocol worldwide, paired with Bitcoin.org’s standing as an information resource for developers and network users, is a winning combination for the greater Bitcoin community.

The website is registered and managed by Bitcoin core developers and additional community members. The sponsorship will be ongoing to support continued development of shared goals, including additional language translations.

If you want to share ideas or provide useful work, bitcoin.org is open-source and your participation is welcome.

Congratulations Bitcoin.org team!
