Museum of History at St. Petersburg which collects preserves and communicates the history and heritage of Florida with emphasis on St. Petersburg and the Pinellas Peninsula, is now accepting Bitcoin in donation. The first information came from BitPay, a Bitcoin payment processing company which on Friday said that it hopes to have 100 local businesses accepting Bitcoin.
BitPay said that close to hundred organizations are expected to embrace the digital currency in time for the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl on Dec. 26. The Bitcoin Company also aims to install 30 BTC ATMs across the region in which customers insert US dollars in exchange for Bitcoins stored in digital wallets.
BitPay co-founder and CEO Stephen Pair in his statement said that the goal from his organization is to create a permanent Bitcoin hub in St. Petersburg. He was talking during a St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce event and admitted that so far, a handful of businesses have signed on with BitPay that includes the St. Petersburg Museum of History.
Several other organizations that according to the BitPay co-founder that have joined the club include Ferg’s Sports Bar and Grill, Green Bench Brewery Co. and Hotel Zamora in St. Pete Beach. He also informed that Centerplate concessions at Tropicana Field, the site of the college bowl game, will be accepting the digital currency soon.
Bitcoin Will Put the Museum in Niche Market Says Marketing Director
James Parrish, the history museum’s marketing director says that he thinks that having Bitcoin will put the museum out to a niche market that normally wouldn’t ever think about. He said that the museum is expecting to get a lot more business because of it as the digital currency is has a lot of potential and a lot of donors would like to pay in it.
The museum has emerged as a local favorite among the people; however, it is always in dire need of funds to maintain itself. The assistance from BitPay which became the title sponsor of the postseason college football game for the next three years, replacing Beef O’Brady’s, a Tampa-based restaurant chain that held the naming rights since 2009, is going to help museum.
Since its emergence in 2009, Bitcoin has become one of the most popular digital currencies for people who want to donate. This is the preferred mode of payment for customers who wish to pay to international merchants as there are several added advantages associated with it that are unavailable elsewhere in other payment options.
