Bitstamp Website Triggers Malware Infection Warnings

Several Reddit users are complaining about a malware warning when visiting the Bitstamp website. Bitstamp is one of the biggest Bitcoin exchanges in all of Europe. By the look of things, there is a specific Trojan warning detected by Windows Defender. For now, it is anybody’s guess where this warning comes from, and whether or not it is a concern.

It is never a fun experience to open up a Bitcoin website and immediately see a malware warning. Unfortunately for Bitstamp users, that is exactly what is going on right now. The company has yet to issue an official statement regarding this potential problem, though. Be Careful When Visiting Bitstamp

According to the Windows Defender report, the Bitstamp website attempts to spread the Swabfex Trojan. This is a severe concern, as it is quite a powerful malware. As one would come to expect from malicious software, this “tool” can download and install other programs. In most cases, even more malware is downloaded to a computer, and it may eventually get hijacked as well.

Interestingly enough, Windows Defender is the only malware protection tool creating these warnings for the time being. It does not matter which version of Windows people are using, though, as reports from both W10 and W7 users have surfaced. Some people may argue Windows Defender is not the most reliable solution, though. Warnings like these always have to be taken with a grain of salt, but at the same time, it is advised to remain cautious for now.

Accessing the Bitstamp website through a mobile browser does not seem to be triggering any warnings for now. Google Chrome usually warns users if they are visiting a site which can potentially harm their computer. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case just yet.
