Dogecoin Inventor Leaves Twitter and Youtube

Jackson Palmer, a marketing specialist, coder and technologist best known for inventing Elon Musk’s favorite crypto, has suddenly taken his Twitter private and has likewise removed countless of videos on cryptocurrencies.

What happened is unclear, with the archive pages going back to the 2nd of April. At the time, Palmer said:

“Because a few people have asked: yes, I’ve made all the crypto videos on my YouTube channel private. Thread as to why…

Every few days, I get contacted by someone saying I’m being impersonated on Telegram, WhatsApp or via email spoofing offering ‘promoted’ videos for money. In some cases, I sense hostility from these people towards me and they say ‘you should do something about it!’

It’s not my job or responsibility to spend time reporting fake accounts on instant messaging services that I don’t even use, and I don’t have the spare energy to deal with people asking me about this stuff on the regular. It’s made my hobby tedious, tiring and un-fun.

In addition to this, a large chunk of the comments on my videos were akin to ‘this guy talks funny and is dumb, this coin is actually amazing because I have bags of it myself so it must be great’. I turned off notifications, but it’s still not compelling feedback to receive.

So my YouTube channel from here on out is just going to be about general tech and I’ll post when I feel like it. It’s my hobby, after all. Also, scammers are less likely to impersonate me if my channel is just mechanical keyboard reviews. Thanks all for understanding.”

Palmer used to YouTube about a specific blockchain, project, or concept, with the aim of explaining it at a high level view so as to have a general understanding.

The one or two videos we have seen are fairly good, so it is probable some will miss his crypto channel.

Why he left Twitter as well, is unclear. There might be an element of burnout perhaps, but a Dogecoiner says:

“On Twitter, he had a skeptic – analytic position about cryptocurrency and blockchain and it was always refreshing to many, myself included, to listen to his opinion and for that he had many followers and he managed to produce a lot of quality conversation.

But more recently he focused more on other issues like identity politics for which he got a lot of negative replies as one would expect. That probably influenced his decision to delete Twitter as well as the prevalent tribal mentality in many cryptocurrency communities.”

As can be seen in the screenshot above, his Twitter is not quite deleted, it has gone private. It does however say there’s only 18 Tweets, so it’s unclear whether he did actually remove all previous tweets.

Palmer works for Adobe and has been there for about a decade now, but he is best known for inventing the fun cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

“Dogecoin started as a parody of the multitude of alternative cryptocurrencies, or ‘altcoins,’ flooding the market at the time,” he said last year, adding:

“As interest in Dogecoin grew through social media and an active Reddit community, it went on to become an educational gateway for many people dipping their toes into the world of cryptocurrencies for the first time, thanks to its low price and welcoming community.”

In that editorial he says “something is very wrong” about Dogecoin hitting two billion dollars in marketcap, a coin he left in 2015 because he says opportunists took over the community.

It may be perhaps he feels a bit left out of all the gains. Accidental innovations that go on to change the world have a long list of names and products.

He could have turned the joke into a serious joke, but it seems he’s chosen to perhaps take a break.
