What unique features does the Polkadot Blockchain Academy offer to differentiate itself from other educational programs in the blockchain space?
Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) provides students with a highly intensive and immersive in-person learning environment and classroom experience. Delving deeply into each subject, the Academy's curriculum establishes a strong theoretical foundation before moving into practical implementation of blockchain technology.
Founded by Gavin Wood, the program is led and taught by the builders of the technology and by founders of Web3 projects, including engineers and researchers from the Polkadot ecosystem, including Parity Technologies and the Web3 Foundation.
This is not vocational training or a short bootcamp - we are conscious of the high academic standards we hold our students to and the difficulty of the classes and the assignments needed to graduate.
This being said, the program's intensity is designed to ensure students gain valuable knowledge and skills that will enable them to contribute to the Polkadot ecosystem, and to fast-track the adoption of Web3 as developers or founders once they graduate.
PBA’s third wave is currently taking place in Berkeley, and we’ve launched a new track called the Founder’s Track. This track is geared towards prospective and early-stage entrepreneurs who are looking into creating Web3 projects or transitioning their projects from Web2 to Web3.
It is for those founders who are at the beginning of their journey, exploring different protocols, looking at where they should build their venture, how to grow their project, and what is the education that they need in the early stage of their journey.
We're breaking new ground in blockchain education with the launch of our Founders Track at the Academy!

How does the Polkadot Blockchain Academy aim to bridge the gap in education and equip aspiring developers with the necessary skills to thrive in the blockchain ecosystem?
Polkadot Blockchain Academy aims to bridge the gap in blockchain education by offering a comprehensive curriculum covering various blockchain-related topics, such as cryptography, economics, smart contracts, Substrate, and more.
The Academy focuses on equipping aspiring blockchain developers, as well as Web2 developers who are interested in working or building in the Web3 space, with hands-on training, workshops, and a strong theoretical background.
Students have the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts, who impart cutting-edge knowledge and valuable insights.
Can you elaborate on the current skills shortage in the Web3 industry and its impact on the adoption of blockchain technology?
The rapid growth of the Web3 industry has resulted in a scarcity of skilled blockchain developers and professionals. This lack of expertise in developing decentralized applications and working with blockchain technology poses a significant obstacle to the widespread adoption and scalability of blockchain projects.
Therefore, bridging the skills gap becomes imperative to accelerate the adoption of blockchain technology and pave the way for a thriving Web3 future.
How can the collaboration between academic institutions and blockchain projects like Polkadot be leveraged to foster further growth and innovation in the Web3 space?
Establishing partnerships with blockchain projects like Polkadot allows academic institutions to gain access to real-world use cases and industry expertise. Such collaborations provide a platform for knowledge exchange and foster the research and development of innovative blockchain solutions.
Joint initiatives between academic institutions and organizations in the Web3 space also attracts more talent, helping to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem of skilled developers, researchers, and entrepreneurs, all working together to shape the future of blockchain technology.
The passion and dedication of our instructors are instrumental in shaping the next generation of visionary founders. A special shout-out to @EliottTeiss for leading a number of sessions this week and for introducing students to present context(s) of decentralized governance. pic.twitter.com/YZhd0OMaQo
As the Head of PBA, what key challenges do you face in designing and delivering an effective hands-on curriculum to upskill the next generation of blockchain developers?
As the Head of PBA, I encounter several key challenges in creating the right learning experience for the next generation of blockchain developers.
First and foremost, I must constantly adapt the curriculum to keep pace with the fast-evolving nature of the blockchain industry and to reflect the needs of both the Polkadot and broader blockchain ecosystem. This ensures that students receive relevant and up-to-date knowledge to stay competitive in the field.
Another crucial challenge is to ensure that the curriculum caters to students with diverse backgrounds and varying knowledge of blockchain at the start.
The Academy does not require any prior blockchain knowledge, and as a result we have students with varying experience in Web3 space.
By creating a balanced learning environment, we can effectively engage all students, enabling them to grasp concepts and apply their knowledge effectively.
Moreover, striking the right balance between theoretical knowledge and practical experience is essential to equip students with the skills required for real-world projects. By incorporating hands-on training, projects, and industry collaborations, we can provide students with the necessary experience and confidence to tackle challenges they may encounter in their future careers as blockchain developers.

By addressing these challenges proactively, PBA can fulfill its mission of empowering the next generation of blockchain developers with the expertise and skills needed to thrive in this rapidly growing and transformative industry.
Could you share some success stories or examples of individuals who have graduated from previous PBA cohorts and have made significant contributions to the blockchain industry?
One of our PBA graduates demonstrated exceptional talent and innovation by developing the decentralized application "Societal" on Polkadot. He came to the Polkadot Blockchain Academy in Cambridge with his project idea, and with the knowledge gained from the Academy, he brought it to life through dedication and hard work.
As a result, he joined the Substrate Builders Program, secured a Web3 Foundation Grant, and successfully completed the Outlier Ventures Base Camp F22 accelerator. Recently, Societal was accepted into the prestigious Berkeley Blockchain Xcelerator, marking a significant achievement for both the graduate and the Academy.
Another remarkable success story emerged from a Polkadot Blockchain Academy alumnus who had already founded a company but was inspired to venture into a new Substrate-based project after completing the Academy. His time at PBA led to the birth of the LAOS Project, showcasing how our curriculum inspires and empowers graduates to pursue innovative ideas and initiatives.
Week 2 of the Polkadot Blockchain Academy is drawing to a close!
We're excited to see our students' progress throughout this journey. A big shoutout to our dedicated instructors & partners who have been instrumental in creating an enriching learning experience.

Collaboration and knowledge exchange are core values at the Polkadot Blockchain Academy. For instance, one joint project involved a PBA alumnus teaming up with an Academy instructor to develop Substrate runtimes based on the UTXO model. The project received recognition and support from the Web3 Foundation, highlighting the Academy's role in fostering impactful collaborations that advance blockchain technology.
Additionally, we are proud to share that out of the 61 candidates from two previous Academies held in Cambridge and Buenos Aires, an impressive 65% of them were hired into the Polkadot ecosystem.
Their advanced skills and knowledge gained from the Academy have contributed significantly to existing teams, further establishing PBA as a driving force behind the growth and development of blockchain professionals.
These success stories serve as a testament to the effectiveness of our hands-on curriculum and the impact it has on shaping the future of the blockchain industry through skilled and motivated individuals.
