Aminoca Brands-owned The Sandbox has appointed former PlayStation Studios exec Nicola Sebastiani as its chief content officer (CCO).
The Sandbox, which operates as a virtual global metaverse for players, content creators, gaming studios and brand partners, houses a range of content and experiences, from single-player games to social hubs with community reward mechanics.
Sebastiani’s role includes shaping the content and creator ecosystems that reside within The Sandbox, as well as overseeing game publishing and in-house game production for The Sandbox’s partners.
The company works with more than 250 agencies and studios under The Sandbox’s partners programme and more than 400 brand partners across entertainment (The Walking Dead, Lionsgate), music (Warner Music Group, Steve Aoki, Avenged Sevenfold), lifestyle (Complex, Paris Hilton, BBC Studios, Cipriani, Alo Yoga), fashion (Gucci, Lacoste), education (Ledger, British Museum), social impact (People of Crypto, Code Green) and gaming (Ubisoft, Atari).
The CCO will also help further develop the platform’s no-code creator tools Game Maker and VoxEdit, as well as grow The Sandbox’s Game Jam events, which bring together game designers and creator communities to “co-create new touchpoints for existing brands and celebrities.”
At PlayStation Studios, Sebastiani was VP and head of mobile, building its mobile user base and games strategy. Before that he held roles at Apple as head of games business development for the App Store and as head of content for Apple Arcade.
Meanwhile, The Sandbox’s North America CEO Mathieu Nouzareth has been promoted to chief business officer, overseeing the company’s global business strategy; and Amit Kumar has been promoted from chief growth officer to chief marketing officer to help expand The Sandbox’s global community.
