In an announcement cryptocurrency mining hardware designer KnCMiner says that it will be launching its next generation Bitcoin ASICs in early 2015 which according to the company will be catering the requirements from advanced Bitcoin miners. The Swedish company announced that its upcoming Solar ASIC will be manufactured on the new 16nm FinFET node.
The Solar ASIC will allow significant performance and efficiency gains from the previous hardware made available by KnCMiner and according to the company it would be relying on solutions developed by its engineering team. It says that the 16nm process represents a step change in processing capability.
KnCMiner says that it using several proprietary techniques developed in-house to reach speeds an order of magnitude above today’s levels. It says, “We were the first in the world to deliver 28nm and 20nm Bitcoin chip technology and we’re still the only producer capable of delivering 20nm tech in the Bitcoin space.”
The press release from the company says, “We’ve been aiming for the next step for some time and as the most important contracts in this process have been finalized we can now proudly announce our active move down to the 16nm node with our new upcoming mining platform Solar – to be deployed in early 2015.”
The new 16nm process is a step change in processing capability
Though KnCMiner became the first Bitcoin ASIC designer to launch a planar 20nm chip earlier this year, it says that the intellectual property involved in the new 16nm process represents a step change in processing capability as the company is using several proprietary techniques developed in-house to reach speeds on an order of magnitude above today’s levels.
However, the company expects that its implementation of the new 5000+ core Solar 16nm (FinFET) processor technology to deliver at least a six-fold increase in performance compared to our previous generation hardware (at 20nm) – achieving 0.07 w/GHs will be far better and extremely profitable for Bitcoin miners.
KnCMiner further declared that as this level of tech comes on-stream it will be able to offer cloud services as well as hardware at performance and price levels very hard to match by the competition. At the same time it made it clear that due to a rapidly shifting landscape within the mining industry it is unable to announce single hardware products in the Solar range.
